Chippewas add senior high jumper to MAC Championship qualifier list

With only one week until the culmination of the Indoor Track and Field season at the Mid-American Conference Championship meet in Akron, the Grand Valley State Tune-Up was the Chippewas’ last chance to qualify for the meet.The only Chippewa to qualify for the MAC Championship Friday was senior jumper Matt Mueller, who finished second in the high jump. Mueller is the 30th Chippewa to qualify for next week's meet.Final preparations for the MAC Championship will be made this week at practices.






Track coach happy with team's performance at Saginaw invitational

Prior to this weekend, Central Michigan Track and Field Head Coach Mark Guthrie called the Jet’s Pizza Invitational “a stepping stone.” After the meet, Guthrie said this weekend was a step in the right direction.“This meet was an excellent example of athletes competing at a high level, beating people and performing well,” Guthrie said.


Chippewas look to bounce back after EMU Triangular

Coming off of last week’s second place finish at the Eastern Michigan Triangular, the Central Michigan track and field teams are looking for better performances at the second annual Jet’s Pizza Invitational at Saginaw Valley State.“The frustration for me, coming off of last meet, is we were close in a couple races and we didn’t finish the job,” said Head Coach Mark Guthrie.


Track teams place second to Eastern Michigan, top Oakland

In the first scored meet of the season, the Central Michigan track and field teams had weaknesses exposed.CMU’s men (109 points) and women (102 points) placed second at the Eastern Michigan Triangular on Saturday, the second competition of any kind this season for the Chippewas.Eastern Michigan — ranked second in the Mid-American Conference for the men and first for the women — placed first in the men’s (138 points) and women’s (140 points) competition, leaving Oakland in third place.
