Rants & Raves
Rants and Raves out of idiot's mouth on this Wednesday morning:
Rave: The Detroit Tigers swept the weekend series from the defending champion New York Yankees. The boys of summer got incredible pitching and timely hitting during their inspired play over the weekend. Remember that these are the world champion New York Yankees.
This is bigger than David versus Goliath, it is as unlikely as Rosie O'Donnell skipping her third dessert.
Rant: I get irritated by the hypocrisy of some Detroit sports fans. The same individuals who complain about the Detroit Tigers not being able to compete with the teams that have the highest payroll, also love how the Red Wings continuously get marquee players for their playoff drive.
Don't they realize that the Red Wings do the same damn thing as the Yankees, Braves and Indians do.
Rave: The Lions draft was most impressive and I should know since I watched 10 hours of draft coverage on Saturday.
The ability to trade up and get Aaron Gibson late in the first round was the best decision I have seen since the cancellation of the supposed comedy "Dear John."
Rant: The Lions team still stinks. It still has five-foot-nothing cornerbacks who get burnt like toast, and unless Gibson can block five people, its offense will go nowhere.
Head Coach Bobby Ross needs to stop drooling over himself and start motivating some of his professional players.
Rave: I love the VH1 "Behind the Music" shows. They make them so interesting that they could film one about my friend Nate Mazurek and how he likes to play the harmonica.
Sure Nate is not real good and his life is pretty uninteresting, but VH1 can turn any loser into a show.
Rave: Wayne Gretzky epitomized what pro sports and pro sport stars are supposed to be all about. He was a team player and treated the game with the utmost respect. The presence of Gretzky will be as sorely missed as that of Michael Jordan was in the NBA.
Rant: Cal Ripken Jr. is the most self-centered, selfish, egocentric player in the history of Major League Baseball.
Now that his precious little streak is over, he is taking more days off than I have in my last semester of classes.
The only reason the streak lasted as long as it did is because Ripken is all about personal achievements and could care less about team goals!
Rave: I enjoyed being able to watch the Sacramento Kings on television last week. They have a young exciting team with Chris Webber, Corliss Williamson and Jason Williams.
Rant: Can we please remove the Los Angeles Lakers from TNT and NBC coverage?
There is only so many times I can hear color commentator Doug Collins tell me that the Lakers have talent but do not play together as a team. Maybe Collins can run that team into the ground just like he did the Pistons.
Rave: In my opinion Ponderosa offers the best dining in Mount Pleasant. Indeed, all-you-can-eat steak is a novel concept. Chalk one up for quantity over quality.
Rant: I hate trying to get a haircut in Mount Pleasant. I sit in Bo Rics for an hour only to spend $8 to look like a young Marv Albert.
Rant or Rave: Only 1 more edition to go.
