Alumni events a plenty this weekend

Cardboard boats, a grand marshal reception, a parade, and a football game will give CMU alumni a variety of events to attend at Homecoming.
Tony Voisin, director of Alumni Relations, said every year the Homecoming program is a little different.
“Every year there is a little wrinkle here and there,” he said. “It’s one of our biggest weekends of the year.”
An open house at the Carlin Alumni House will take place from 1 to 4 p.m. for alumni. At 7 p.m. the Homecoming Steering Committee will host a pep rally in the Student Activity Center. The Homecoming Show featuring David Spade, former cast member of Saturday Night Live, will kick off at 9 p.m. in Rose Arena.
“There is something for everybody, whether it’s a reception or an event,” Voisin said.
Alumni will be treated to a complimentary continental breakfast from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday in the Leadership Institute, located in Powers Hall.
The Homecoming parade, featuring Jack Saunders as grand marshal, will take place from 9:45 to 11 a.m. on Saturday. A pregame luncheon for alumni will take place from 11 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Saturday in the Indoor Athletic Complex.
Cost for the luncheon is $7 for adults and $4 for children 12 and under.
Voisin said gauging the number of alumni who return to CMU during Homecoming is tough — 400 people attended last year’s luncheon and most were alumni.
A reception honoring Jack Saunders, parade grand marshal, will take place from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Music Building; 100-150 people are expected to attend.
