“The food drive was excellent not only here, but throughout the country,” said Vice President Mike Love, food drive coordinator. “Nationally, Lambda Chi Alpha beat the goal of collecting 2.9 million pounds of food.”

All food donated benefits the Isabella Community Soup Kitchen, 202 S. Elizabeth St.

“We had generous support from the community and people on campus,” said Love, Mount Pleasant sophomore.

After his first year of participation in the food drive, Illinois freshman Kevin Butcher said the drive went very well.

“We had a great turn out,” he said. “The whole community helped to make it a success.”

In October, members of the fraternity passed out empty grocery bags to community members, asking them to fill the bags with canned goods and non-perishable food items.

The fraternity then collected the bags and on Saturday brought them to the parking lot of Ric’s Food Center, 705 S. Mission St., where the food was counted and even more was collected.

“I passed out bags and the community seemed very willing to help,” said Lambda Chi member Ted Alberts, Kent City senior.

Love said this is the most successful food drive the fraternity has had.

“This year is probably 20 times better then last year,” he said. “We had almost a 2,000-percent increase in the amount collected.”

Love credits the support of campuses and communities for the nationwide success of the program, he said.

“We would like to thank all the students, faculty and community members who supported us,” he said.
