Decent weather predicted for game

Notorious Michigan weather patterns have Homecoming officials taking precautions.

Despite the National Weather Service’s prediction of a partly cloudy, 69-degree Saturday, the uncertainty forces the Homecoming coordinators to devise a backup plan for outdoor events.

“We have Finch Fieldhouse booked all week,” said Houghton Lake senior Lynn Hutchinson, Homecoming chairwoman.

In the case of bad weather, Finch will be used to house the activities.

Few of the activities are strictly outdoors, Hutchinson said.

Last year, the weather during Homecoming week was chilly but had little effect on the festivities, she said.

Ashton Peyrefitte, assistant professor of meteorology, said the weather pattern in Michigan is going through a transition.

For almost two weeks there has been an unusual cold system that has lingered in the region, he said.

Hutchinson said she is not worried about the weather and hopes that people will still get involved.

“I think the weather this week is suppose to look really nice and we hope to have a lot of people come out to the events,” Hutchinson said.
