Women rule, men drool
More than just prizes were on the line Tuesday – bragging rights were at stake.
Female students claimed intellectual superiority against their male counterparts by a score of 29-25 in the “Battle of the Sexes” in Anspach Hall.
Cultural sororities Delta Sigma Theta and Sigma Lambda Gamma sponsored the event, which was part of Delta Sigma Theta’s Unity Week, promoting unity between different organizations.
“I think everyone had a lot of fun because it was a chance to be interactive and not just sit and listen to a lecture,” said Detroit senior Raquiba Robinson, president of Delta Sigma Theta. “It was our first time doing it and with such a great turnout we will consider doing it again.”
Twenty-nine contestants competed in three rounds of trivia, a lightning round and untangling a human knot.
Questions ranged from naming as many United States presidents as possible, naming movies Denzel Washington starred in and listing how many singles were released off Kanye West’s debut album, “College Dropout.”
The men were down by two points going into lightning round, but were able to go ahead by one after the round.
But the women worked as a team during the human knot to win the competition.
Flint senior Ebony Parker participated in the event and came specifically to support Delta Sigma Theta.
“I heard about it through them and thought it was definitely a good time and a good idea for an event,” she said.
