Students receive ‘Best Week Ever’

Waterford freshman Margaret Dika watches VH1’s “Best Week Ever” on a regular basis.

Dika got the chance Thursday to meet her favorite comedian from the show, Christian Finnegan

“I love him on the show,” Dika said. “He’s the first comedian I’ve ever seen live. It’s hard to make me laugh, but he was really funny.”

Finnegan’s fan base nearly filled Warriner Hall’s Plachta Auditorium with about 1,000 students.

“I didn’t expect this good of a turnout,” said Miranda Crawford, On the Fly Productions comedy chairman and Indian River junior. “He brought something for every student to enjoy.”

Finnegan is known for his regular appearances on “Best Week Ever,” as well as his stand-up routine, “Comedy Central Presents: Christian Finnegan.”

But he probably is most widely known from his cameo in “The Mad Real World” from Comedy Central’s “Chappelle’s Show.”

He said he was fortunate to have even been cast in the sketch.

“I won the lottery,” Finnegan said. “It was a very well-conceived sketch and funny as Hell. Nothing I ever do in my career will have the lasting impact this sketch brought.”

Sterling Heights junior Dan Hasty said the sketch drew him to the show.

“I think he’s into the college way of thought,” Hasty said. “He was hilarious.”

CMU was one of three stops the comedian is making over a three-day span. He attended Grand Valley State University Wednesday and will perform twice at Michigan State University today.

“I enjoy college shows,” Finnegan said. “It helps to build a fan base.”
