Political candidacy policy approved by trustees
The Board of Trustees approved a Political Candidacy of Employees Policy that requires faculty running for office to notify the university.
According to the new policy, any Central Michigan University employee running for any federal, state, county or local office as part-time, full-time, paid or unpaid is required to present a statement to his/her supervisor and applicable vice president or provost.
In addition, any university employee that is elected or appointed to public office must present to a CMU personnel office within 20 work days after notification, plus a statement from his/her supervisor stating appropriate arrangements have been made.
Vice President of Financial and Administrative Services David Burdette said the policy was put in place to remind employees their responsibility is to CMU.
"It makes sure we understand their responsibilities are first to CMU," he said at Thursday's meeting.
