The 'Predator' franchise roars into uncharted territory
The series makes its streaming debut -- and it's animated!

"Predator: Killer of Killers" is the first-ever animated Predator movie.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg ("Prey") and screenwriter Micho Rutare ("Sharknado: Feeding Frenzy"), the film is an anthology, meaning it has three different stories interconnecting into one plot. The stories involve Vikings, ninjas and World War II pilots, as they fight to survive the might of the predators.
This film is the "Spider-Verse" of the franchise, using similar animation techniques -- and it's gorgeous! The detail in the people, the vehicles, even down to the individual movements of the blades of grass moving, makes this film feel so lifelike and real.
Trachtenberg also doesn't disappoint with the action and gore. In familiar "Predator" fashion, there are heads being cut off, people set on fire and appendages flying in every direction. The action is gritty, but also very fun.
My favorite story had to do with a Viking clan traveling to seek revenge on enemies who cost them their home. They find the rival tribe and kill them all, but the leader of the clan has a predator up his sleeve and chaos ensues. I've begged the "Predator" franchise for something like this, and it fully delivered on my expectations.
This film isn't perfect. The pilot story wasn't my favorite, and the last 30 minutes had some plot holes, but it made for a great setup to a future sequel. Trachtenburg has already confirmed a sequel is in development, and I can't wait for the future of the franchise.
Overall, it's a great time to be a "Predator" fan. With "Predator: Badlands" arriving in theaters this November and another unknown project set for next year, it's safe to say the franchise is in very good hands.
I'd give "Predator: Killer of Killers" a solid 10/10.
