Late rally helps baseball split doubleheader with Buffalo

A seven-run eighth inning gave the baseball team the lead in the second game of a doubleheader Saturday against Buffalo.

CMU was held scoreless before a rally in the the bottom of the eighth inning rally led to the 7-4 victory at Theunissen Stadium.

"It was a big win for us," said coach Steve Jaksa. "We had had two innings in the series that gave us two wins. We scored five in the first inning of the first game and seven in the eighth of the last."

Central looked to get ahead early in the game when the first three batters reached base in the first inning. With the bases loaded, the next two CMU hitters struck out and a ground ball to the shortstop got Buffalo out of the inning without letting in a run.

"We weren't able to put together a consistent offense early in the game," Jaksa said. "We learned how to deal with things when they don't go your way."

Junior infielder Ricky Clark showed bunt before slapping a hit into right field and scoring the go-ahead run.

CMU split the doubleheader against the Bulls which gave CMU a 2-1 series win, its first Mid-American Conference series victory.

The win makes Central 11-14 overall and 3-3 in the Mid-American Conference.
