'Good Morning America' to film in Mount Pleasant on Monday morning

Representatives from the ABC talk show "Good Morning America" will film in two Mount Pleasant locations Monday morning.

Producers will film at 5 a.m. from Rose Arena and live at 6:30 a.m. from Sacred Heart Academy, 316 E. Michigan St.

Student Activities Coordinator Damon Brown said community members are invited to come to Sacred Heart to show national viewers the community feel of Mount Pleasant.

"We're going to show what the community and excitement is all about," he said.

Keisha Brown, a basketball coach at Sacred Heart Academy and Damon Brown's wife, entered a contest through the talk show that highlights small towns across the country.

Her application made it in a short list of the top three contest winners, and ABC representatives spent the weekend filming downtown and around the city.

For the Rose Arena filming segment, 100-150 kids who won an ongoing food drive contest sponsored by "Good Morning America" will be bused up to Mount Pleasant from a Flint Elementary School. They will present the Food Bank of Eastern Michigan with a check from funds they raised.

Steve Smith, director of media relations, said ABC affiliates recognized Rose Arena as a good-sized venue to accommodate the group and wanted to tie the presentation in with filming in Mount Pleasant throughout the weekend.

"They needed a facility that was big enough," he said. "We wanted to give CMU some involvement in all of this."
