Wilbur to speak about presidency at Academic Senate meeting Tuesday
Some faculty and staff members are questioning the Board of Trustees' policy for choosing interim president Kathy Wilbur for the position.
They will have an opportunity to discuss their concerns with Wilbur, who will speak at an Academic Senate meeting on Tuesday.
Wilbur will hold a question and answer session at 5 p.m. in Dow 102, according to an e-mail obtained by Central Michigan Life. She will discuss her plans for her CMU interim presidency. The meeting will immediately follow the A-Senate's regular 3:30 p.m. meeting.
Angela Haddad, chairperson of the sociology, anthropology and social work department, indicated in the e-mail that she requested a special gathering of the executive team to discuss Wilbur's appointment.
Wilbur was named interim president at the Board's Thursday meeting. She begins July 1.
"My request for a meeting was and is intended to gather faculty to discuss the appointment of an interim president who does not have any of the credentials or experiences that is expected of any candidate for such a position," Haddad said in an e-mail.
Haddad indicated in a later e-mail her displeasure with the committee's decision to center the special segment on a presentation by Wilbur.
"To respond to my request for a meeting by inviting Ms. Wilbur to answer questions about her appointment is to make this about her and not about process and the decision," the e-mail reads. "To make this about Wilbur is to make her the victim or the hero."
