Motor City Bowl may become Little Caesars Pizza, Pizza Bowl

The Motor City Bowl is undergoing a change in sponsorship once again, but this time in a stronger capacity.

Bowl game CEO George Perles said the game has a proposed sponsorship deal to Little Caesars. General Motors Company has followed Chrysler's direction in dropping its sponsorship.

"(The sponsorships of) GM and Chrysler are no longer in existence," Perles said.

The Michigan Regional Carpenters and Millwrights Union replaced Chrysler as a main sponsor earlier this year. The move was supposed to be long-term, but Perles said Little Caesars would be the sole sponsor if they accepted the proposal.

WWJ News Radio 950 in Detroit reported the proposed name for the bowl game would be changed to the Little Caesars Pizza, Pizza Bowl, but Perles would not confirm.

"We're making a proposal to them," he said. "That's as far as it goes."

The name change would be effective immediately if Little Caesars accepts the proposal, Perles said.

The game is still scheduled to be be played at 1 p.m. Dec. 26 at Ford Field in Detroit.
