Planning Commission to review Isabella Bank plans Thursday
A proposed text amendment to the Mount Pleasant Zoning Ordinance and a site plan review for the Isabella Bank and Trust building, 1416 E. Pickard St., are both on the agenda for this Thursday's Mount Pleasant Planning Commission meeting.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m., Thursday held at the City Hall Commission Chamber, 320 W. Broadway St.
The ordinance amendment will be up for a public hearing at the meeting.
The proposed amendment, entitled the Mission Redevelopment Overlay Zone, will allow the city to relax certain ordinances for businesses who agree to structure "nicer looking buildings" on Mission Street., according to Jeff Smith, vice chairman of the commission.
"This is a very complicated ordinance that we've drafted to hope to spur redevelopment on Mission Street," he said.
Smith said the commission has been working on this amendment for the past year.
This amendment will hopefully allow for a revitalization of the street, as well as give the city better looking buildings, he said.
"(Hopefully) this will entice developers to build more attractive buildings on Mission Street by trading," he said.
Attached to the amendment is "Design Considerations for Mission Street," which will provide potential developers with details of how the city would like future buildings to look.
"This will express to developers what kind of buildings we'd like to see," Smith said.
Pictures will be attached in the booklet of building ideas, he said.
The site plan review is for the Isabella Bank and Trust. The company would like to have an 1,901-square feet addition to the building. Smith said the addition will be for offices and to add more space to the building.
The meeting will also announce anticipated agenda items for the month of August.
