Friday's surplus sale features up to 100 bicycles
Between 75 and 100 impounded bicycles from Central Michigan University are available at Friday’s surplus sale.
University Stores and Warehouse Operations Manager Mike Viers said each bike will be sold by the marked price, ranging between $10 and $60 depending on the quality of the bike. Each bike, Viers said, is priced by condition, make and model.
The sale is from noon to 2 p.m. in Lot 1 at the corner of Bellows and Douglas streets. The bikes for sale were impounded from around campus over the summer.
“If the bikes aren’t on a bike rack, we’re going to try to get those removed,” said CMU Community Police Officer Mike Sienkiewicz.
“Once the holding period expires, they’re up for public sale,” Viers said.
Sienkiewicz said the number of impounded bikes over the fall semester was drastically smaller than the number impounded over the summer, with fewer than 12 impounded since the start of the semester.
“We haven’t really done like a major sweep like over the summer,” he said. “(We) haven’t tagged many bikes.”
The CMU Surplus sale is open to everyone, and Viers said the surplus sale brings in a variety of students, staff and community members.
In addition to the recent collection of impounded bicycles, other items for sale include office furniture, computer equipment, file cabinets and other miscellaneous objects. Items that do not sell are typically available at the next sale.
