Accessories are in full bloom this winter season

The winter has opened a door of fashion for Koren Burns, who looks to remain fashionable even in spite of cold, wet weather.

“I wear gloves that coordinate with my coat or scarf and wear trendy shoes or boots that are warm,” the Monroe sophomore said.

Canton senior Carmen Walker said scarves are the most necessary accessory because some people don’t button their coat up all the way to their neck.

Grand Rapids sophomore Champaine Johnson owns a couple scarves herself.

“My favorite one is plaid — the colors are purple, gray and black,” Johnson said.

Many stores carry winter accessories for every personality.

Burns got her hat from Macy’s, her favorite store.

“It’s cute and warm and my favorite color, orange. It has a patterned top and braided sides that hang down,” she said.

Walker prefers Deb, a retail store, for winter accessories.

“I kind of just do me — if I like it, I wear it,” she said.

Reknit

If you can’t find a store that suits your taste, try Reknit.

Reknit is a Web site where anyone can send an old favorite sweater or shirt to and have it reknit into a scarf.

Or, if scarves are not your thing, users also can vote on what should be reknit next.

The process is shown on the Web site and the customer receives their new hand-made scarf in 7 to 10 business days. The job costs $30 — a pretty penny for a scarf — but, in return, you’ll have an item that is one-of-a-kind.

Classic piece of the week:

Leather gloves — Also known as driving gloves, leather gloves are not only warm and comfortable, but also classy. They are great for mobility, compared to big fluffy gloves or mittens, and they match any formal outfit. Depending on where you buy them, they can last for a while, and will never go out of style.
