Gymnastics team beats Ball State for 11th win

The CMU gymnastics team defeated MAC opponent Ball State, 194.325-192.275, for its 11th win Saturday at Rose Arena.

No. 23 CMU posted its fifth score of 194 or higher in its last six meets. On a night celebrating seniors, the crowd of more than 600 honored the Katie Simon and Jessica Suder, the team’s two seniors.

The Chippewas won three of four events, with their highest score coming in the floor exercise, a 49.125. The season-high score on the floor was led by sophomore Kristin Teubner (9.875) and junior Andrea de la Garza (9.85).

Despite a score of 47.575 on the balance beam, senior Jessica Suder posted a 9.875. The remainder of the beam lineup accounted for two falls, resulting in a score 1.075 points less that BSU. Coach Jerry Reighard said there was one positive from the lack-luster beam rotation, and that was in the Suder’s performance.

“She has really shown what she is made of,” he said. “She’s maintained that poise on balance beam.” Simon led the all-around category with a 38.625, while de la Garza finished in third with a 38.475.

CMU (11-2, 4-1 MAC) competes against Bowling green on March 21 to wrap up its regular season schedule.
