Sabin plays, performs, pokes fun at Drag Queen Bingo as part of Coming Out Week

Pearce 128 was not a typically quiet bingo hall Wednesday night — Hamtramck drag queen Sabin made sure of that.

Sabin hosted an hour and a half of "Drag Queen Bingo" as one of the events of Coming Out Week.

“This is my drug, the love and applause I get makes me high,” Sabin said.

Sabin also performed and entertained the crowd with witticism and insults as numbers were called and cards were daubed.

The show brought out Bay City alumna Trisha Hebert.

“It was well worth the drive here,” she said.

Throughout the night Sabin picked on numerous attendees, including Macomb junior Nick D’Annunzio.

“I was a little nervous at first when she was talking to me, but it’s great entertainment,” D’Annunzio said.

Once a professional backup dancer for Madonna, Sabin suffered a knee injury that led to her drag queen performances.

However, she said she does not regret the transition.

“It’s my passion, it’s what I love to do,” Sabin said.

She said she fondly remembers her five previous performances at CMU.

“I got a standing ovation three years ago from you all, and that changed the reason I performed,” Sabin said.

She advised the crowd not to just go through the daily motions but to find their lives and live them.

“Just live your life, be happy with what you have,” she said.
