Baseball, softball players earn MAC weekly awards

Central Michigan University grabbed three of the four Mid-American Conference West Division weekly awards in baseball and softball Tuesday.

Sophomore infielder Jordan Dean hit for a .571 average, two doubles, a home run and stole two bases to earn himself MAC West Player of the Week this past weekend. Dean’s eight hits leads the team, and four runs batted in is good for second best on CMU.

Sundberg, Seedon earn awards

Freshman Chelsea Sundberg and senior Kari Seddon swept the MAC West softball honors.

Sundberg took MAC West Pitcher of the Week, going 2-0 with a 2.08 earned run average and struck out 11 batters.

Seddon won MAC West Player of the Week with a .438 average driving in two runs and two doubles.

“Chelsea pitched a great game,” said CMU softball coach Margo Jonker following Sundberg’s complete-game shutout where she only allowed three hits. “It was great to see.”

Marinier nominated

Sophomore Scott Marinier was another nominee for MAC West Pitcher of the Week, after throwing four and two-third innings of shut out baseball to earn a win against Florida Golf Coast on Sunday. Marinier struck out six batters and gave up two hits in the Chippewas' 10-5 win.
