A large portion of Jamestown Apartments was blocked off by police during a two-hour standoff with a man who was threatening to harm himself Friday night.

The standoff ended peacefully when police from the Michigan State Police, Central Michigan University Police, Saginaw Chippewa Tribal Police, Mount Pleasant Police and the Isabella County Sheriff's Department chose to back off because the man had not technically committed any crime.

A Michigan State trooper said it was a non-criminal matter and that they did not want to escalate things in fear of someone getting hurt.

Police were called to the complex located at 4075 S. Isabella Road shortly before 10 p.m. when they received a report of a possibly drunk and suicidal man threatening himself.

The area between buildings AA and KK in Jamestown Apartments was blocked off.

Throughout the standoff, police said the man was in communication with his family via text messaging, with the last message saying he just wanted to go to sleep.

Police said they left the scene at about midnight after not hearing of any communication from the man for about 40 minutes.
