BREAKING: Union of Teaching Faculty, university reach tentative agreement

Central Michigan University and the Union of Teaching Faculty agreed on a tentative deal for a new four-year collective bargaining agreement.

According to an announcement sent from University Communications Tuesday, details from the agreement will not be shared until both the UTF and CMU have officially ratified the deal. UTF represents the 340 adjunct-faculty members at CMU.

Jim Eikrem, assistant communication and dramatic arts professor and president of UTF, said they will have more information at the UTF rally Wednesday.

"Not all parties have signed off on it, because it's in the process," he said. "We negotiated the terms of the contract, and then afterward we need to decide if it's satisfactory for everybody. It’s not secure agreement until it has been ratified."

He said he is happy UTF and CMU reached an agreement.

"It’s been a long process from this point," he said. "It sounds like it’s going to be something we can be proud of."

Steve Smith, director of public relations, did not comment further on the subject when contacted by Central Michigan Life Tuesday.

The union has organized multiple protests throughout the semester.
