Network for Women hosts Welcome Back luncheon

Central Michigan University’s Network for Women hosted its annual Welcome Back to Campus luncheon Monday afternoon.

The picnic was held from 11:45 to 1 p.m. at the Pond west of Park Library.

Network for Women provides programming opportunities to serve women across campus in helping them get to know each other and to serve as mentors and facilitators. In addition, it helps to provide educational opportunities, skill development and professional development.

“It is my honor to speak to this group,” said Marcy Weston, senior associate athletics director and guest speaker at the event.

After an introduction by Julia Sherlock, campus coordinator for NFW, Weston addressed the audience. The topic of the day was how to truly make a difference in the world we live in.

“I want to take the time to talk about how we, as women can make a difference in our professional lives, personal lives, and our communal lives," Weston said.

With over 100 women in attendance, Weston began to break down what she described as ten simple changes women can take to make a difference in their own worlds.

One topic Weston stressed was what she called the “LFT,” or something to “Look Forward To.”

“Give yourself and the people around you something to look forward to,” Weston said. “This helps you get through the trauma of now.”

Each month, NFW focuses its attention on a charitable organization in the community.

NFW's community service focus for September is raising money and household items for Women’s Aid Services. WAS is dedicated to providing shelter, domestic violence and sexual assault counseling, child and adolescent counseling, legal advocacy, sexual assault advocacy and prevention services.
