Club Hip-Hop plans fundraiser to support Chicago competition

Jillian Jinnerson's love for dance will soon take her and the rest of Club Hip-Hop to Chicago to compete.

“Club Hip-Hop is very excited to announce that we are going on our first out-of-state trip for a competition,” said Jinnerson, a Midland junior and the club’s vice president.

Club Hip-Hop is having a fundraiser on Feb. 11 from noon to 5 p.m. in the McGuirk Arena room 126 to raise money to travel to Chicago for an upcoming competition.

The club is asking for a $5 donation at the door and will be providing a late lunch. The participants will be taught multiple dance routines of all different levels.

“I think the fundraiser sounds awesome,” said Farmington Hills junior Kourtney Lamb-Wooden. “What a cool way to learn some new dance moves, plus this way I know exactly where my donation is going.”

The club practices three hours a week to learn their routines, practice and perfect them. The club performs in the homecoming parade, the Dickens Christmas parade, spring competitions and as many on campus shows as possible.

“I'm so proud of how hard everyone has worked last semester and so far this semester," Jinnerson said. "The Chicago trip is meant to be a fun weekend where we can show off what we have been working so hard on, and hopefully bring home a platinum award.”

Illinois sophomore Tamra Tarant said she loves being part of the hip-hop club, because of all the things it's brought into her life.

“Hip hop club is a great way to meet people and make new friends," Tarant said. "We all have such a great time dancing together, and we’re excited for the upcoming competitions. Anyone that likes to dance and is willing to practice can join.
