Snow storm Thursday evening, five inches expected by end of weekend

After a month of winter, it's not usual for mid-Michigan to have no snow on the ground, but that’s about to change.
According to the National Weather Service on Thursday evening a winter weather advisory is in effect. Five inches of snow is expected to drop by the end of the weekend.
"I’m completely dreading it,” said Clarkston senior Lindsay Kolich. “We went through two winter months of spring weather and now all of a sudden I have to go hunt down my boots again. Every time you get used to Michigan weather it does something to throw you back into confusion.”
The temperature is forecasted to drop eight degrees by Friday morning, including three inches of snow throughout the day. A 20 percent chance of snow showers is forecasted on Saturday with a high of 22 degrees. No snow is forecasted for Sunday, and temperatures are expected to rise to 28 degrees.
“I’m not worried about the bad weather conditions to come,” said Jackson senior Courtney Moyer. “It’s not like Michigan drivers have never seen snow before. I think it’s ridiculous when people start freaking out about an inch of snow. It’s not like we don’t drive through this year after year.”
Around noon on Thursday Central Michigan University Communications sent out an email to students detailing where to find information on any school closures.
If classes are canceled, students are advised to check their CMU email, the CMU homepage, and look for messages from iCentral and Blackboard. Students can also call the CMU Information Line at 774-7500.
CMU Public Radio will be notified of any closures. A decision on the status of classes and university operations will be made by 6 a.m.
