Rain reschedules baseball's comeback attempt over Troy
The Central Michigan baseball team will finish its second game of the series against Troy tomorrow at noon after a rain shorted game Saturday in Troy, Ala.
The game is currently in the bottom of the fifth with CMU down 8-7. The Chippewas (0-1) will be looking to finish out their comeback against the Trojans (1-0) who led 7-0 after seven run bottom of the third.
After cutting the score to 7-2 in the fourth inning the CMU bats exploded in the fifth inning by evening things up at seven apiece with five runs, on five hits including a three-run home run by senior left fielder Sam Russell.
Troy senior right fielder Boone Shear got his fourth RBI and his second hit of the game by opening up the bottom of the fifth with a solo home run.
He was followed a pair of singles that brought an end to Chippewas senior pitcher Jon Weaver’s day.
Weaver went four innings allowing 10 hits and struck out three batters.
Freshman pitcher Jordan Foley came in and struck out batter and walked the next one before the umpires called for a rain delay at 1:52 p.m.
After about an hour long rain delay it was decided to resume play tomorrow at noon in the bottom of the fifth with one out and the bases loaded for the Trojans. Game three will start Sunday, 30 minutes after game two concludes.
The two teams were scheduled to play a four-game series, but with the rainout Saturday it has been changed to just a three-game series. CMU senior Ryan Longstreth is scheduled to start Sunday in game three.
