Portion of Bellows Street to be closed Wednesday through Friday

A portion of Bellows Street north of campus will be closed for three days this week.

Bellows Street between East Campus Drive and Lansing Street will be shut down to all traffic Wednesday through Friday for McGuirk Sand and Gravel to do needed work on the Central Michigan University graduate housing complex. Utility tie-ins are being installed, including work on the “sewer lines for the new graduate housing," said Alex Fuller, a spokesman for McGuirk.

These are small steps toward completion of the nearly $29 million project, a two-building facility with 94 units estimated to be finished in March 2013. The project was approved by the CMU Board of Trustees in September 2011, and construction began shortly after.

“Possible detours include traveling south on East Campus Drive, west on Preston Street and north on Franklin Street,” Fuller said. Detour signs will be posted as construction begins, guiding residents of north campus as well as other students and staff to avoid any safety and traffic-related problems.

Because this is not a Mount Pleasant project, the city asks all questions relating to the Bellows Street closure be directed to Fuller at 772-1309.
