Baseball loses third-straight on five-run seventh inning by Bethune-Cookman
With the game tied at five a five-run seventh inning for Bethune-Cookman led to another loss for Central Michigan baseball Tuesday.
After trailing 5-3 CMU tied the game in the seventh inning as the momentum was swinging back and forth.
The momentum took one final swing into the home Wildcats corner in the bottom half of the seventh with five runs off two hits.
The inning started with freshman reliever Blake Louscher walking back-to-back hitters after starting the inning with a strikeout.
Junior pitcher Scott Mariner replaced Louscher on the mound and proceeded to walk the bases loaded with one out.
Two wild pitches, a single and double later the score was 10-5 and Mariner exited the game, replaced by junior Kenton San Miguel who got the final out of the inning with a pop-up.
Sophomore Dylan Rheault got the start on the mound and started hot with four strikeouts and one hit after two innings. It was in the third inning when Rheault got a little wild.
He walked and hit his first two batters faced in the inning before getting a flyout.
Two singles and fielder's choice groundout gave B-CU a 3-0 lead after three innings. Rheault gave up two hits in the fourth, but finished the inning giving him four innings pitched, five hits, one earned run and six strikeouts.
Freshman outfielder Luke Regnier gave the Chippewas some life in the fifth with a single and then stole second, putting him in scoring position for his brother, sophomore outfielder Nick Regnier, to knock him in with single to left-center field.
Senior infielder Jordan Adams would add a RBI with a single down the left field line to make the score 3-2 halfway through the fifth.
Freshman Adam Aldred entered the game and with one out in the bottom the fifth and the bases loaded he got out of the inning unharmed with a taylormade six-four-three double play.
Junior infielder Noel Santos knocked in the tying run in the top of the sixth after sophomore Tyler Huntey walked and freshman outfielder Neal Jacobs started the inning getting hit by a pitch and took third on a passed ball.
Aldred got wild in the bottom of the sixth, walking two and leaving the game for Louscher who gave up a hit and wild pitch to allow the runs to score, making 5-3 Wildcats.
Adams ledoff with a single and was followed by a double from freshman Zach Fields, senior Tom Lally singled up the middle for the run, as did Huntey to tie the game before the aforementioned bottom of the seventh did in the Chippewas.
Freshman right-hander Taylor Lehnert will get the start in game two and will look to help snap his team's three-game losing streak.
First pitch scheduled for 6 p.m. Wednesday.
