Central Michigan baseball pulls out third win of the weekend against Marshall


A comeback in the ninth gave baseball its third win of the weekend on Saturday.

CMU defeated Marshall 10-8 to remain perfect in the four-game series.

Trailing 8-7, sophomore Nick Regnier set things in motion for the Chippewas, singling to shortstop to get on base.

Regnier stole second, followed by Jordan Adams single to join him on the bags and put Regnier in scoring position.

Two runs came in for CMU after an error by Marshall, giving the Chippewas the lead before they added another run for the final 10-8 score.

The Chippewas and the Thundering Herd were tied at 1-1 by the end of the first inning.

CMU put three runs on the board in the second inning to gain a 4-1 lead.

By the fifth the team was down 6-5, but the Chippewas retook the lead with two more runs in the seventh.Pat MacKenzie getting on base with a walk, advancing to second on a single by Regnier before sophomore Cody Leichman joined his teammates to load the bases. A single by Jacobs brought two of his teammates in.

Jacobs had three RBIs in the game, going 3-5 at the plate, while Regnier went 2-4  and scored three runs.

Senior Pat Kaminska started for the Chippewas, pitching six innings and gave up four earned runs.

Redshirt freshman Blake Louscher and sophomore Sean Renzi followed Kaminska, with Louscher and Renzi each giving up a hit.

Sophomore Matt Trowbridge earned the save by coming in to finish the game and strike out two of the final three batters.

The series will come to a close tomorrow with a start time at noon.
