Sophomore CarolAnn Sexuaer hit a home run in both of softball's games at Eastern Michigan this weekend and helped lead  her team to a split at Ypsilanti.
CMU struggled in the first game on Friday but came back strong the following day to end the weekend with a split. Sexauer was consistently strong in the batter’s box, continuing her productive season with four hits on the weekend.
“Hitting-wise, we were about the same between Friday and Saturday," said head coach Margo Jonker. "I think the difference was the pitching for us and the zone that we had to work with. Offensively, Carol had an outstanding weekend.”
She was extremely effective at the plate; in the first game, Sexauer hit a solo home run with two outs in the first to give her team a 2-0 lead, but they would ultimately fall to the Eagles 8-4.
However, Sexauer contributed to a last effort to regain the lead in the fifth inning. She opened the inning with her eighth double on the season and came in to score when freshman Katelyn Rentschler hit a sacrifice fly ball to left field.
Sexauer finished the first game with two extra base hits and one RBI from her homer.
“Our mentality was the same as it is going into every single game and that is to win the game, and we wanted to take it one game at a time,” Jonker said.
In the second game, the Chippewas put the events of the first day behind them, but Sexauer continued her production with her fifth home run of the season.
Once again a solo home run, Sexauer scored first for her team with two outs to take the lead in the fourth inning. She recorded another RBI on the day and ended 2-for-3 in the 3-0 victory.
Sexauer leads the Chippewas with a .373 batting average in 75 at-bats. On the season, she has a second-best 28-hits and contributed two RBI to put her total at 19. She also has the most home runs and a team-high .680 slugging percentage.
