COLUMN: We made it

Take a deep breath. And now let it out.

We have all made it through the first week of classes. Some of us might have come out stronger than others, but we survived.

By now, we have created our homes away from home, moving in all the things we need to survive, including our pillow pets. (We all know these come in handy in times of loneliness and stress.)

The over-crowding at the grocery stores throughout town has finally died down.

We had one crazy welcome weekend, and our hangovers have slowly, but surely, disappeared.

MAINstage provided us with the opportunity to become informed and involved on campus. For some Chippewas, that meant reconnecting with RSOs, while for others, that meant getting involved with new ones.

Our feelings of anxiety, nervousness and excitement are coming to a welcomed end. We are finding our classroom comfort zones, whether that is sitting in the back or front row, an aisle seat or in the middle, alone or possibly by a friend.

The always-dreadful book purchasing process is over. No more $300 purchases at the bookstore, and no more obnoxiously long lines to deal with.

The intimidating introductions from the professors are over now, and the syllabus and course schedules have been viewed and studied down to a "T."

And, if needed, schedule changes have been made.

I, for one, am already adapting both mentally and emotionally for what this semester has in store for me.

Soon enough, my four alarms will die down to two, and I will no longer need to glance back at my class schedule. It'll be instilled in me. I have started to create shortcuts and know the exact time to leave my apartment. In fact, Moore Hall is precisely a 12-minute walk away.

I now have my gears in check, and I am nearly ready to buckle down, for the next four months of my life will be fully consumed by classes and work.

Its official. We have survived the first week of classes, and now it’s really time to fire up, Chips!
