Studying is, it is safe to say, the favorite task of few. So it helps to listen to music while going over notes or reading, because it makes the task a little easier. However, during finals time studying time is taken a little more seriously. Therefore, here are some ideas for music to listen to while studying that will complement the task instead of just distracting you.

- Classical music. Classical music is always great to listen to while reading or going over notes because there are no words in the music to distract you. “I have to listen to music that doesn’t have words,” Lisa Rosado, a Perry junior, said. “Otherwise I get distracted.” Music sites like Pandora and Spotify have great classical music selections, especially for people that want a wide variety of music to choose from.

- Study or focus mixes on Spotify. The music site Spotify has a great selection of mood music, a part of which are several stations specifically designated for studying and focusing on homework. These usually feature calm music that won’t distract from the task at hand.

- Nature sounds. Sometimes even having music on can be distracting, but you still want some background noise while you work. In this case, listening to nature sounds could do the trick. They offer ambient background noise without being too obvious.

- Your favorite music. When you have a lot of studying to do, sometimes it helps to simply put on your favorite music, regardless of what type of music it is. This might put you into a better mood and inspire you to get more work done. Spring Lake junior Evie Lorimer said she always puts her favorite Christian music on when she is studying, partly because the music is always calm and relaxing. “My favorites include Tenth Avenue North and TobyMac,” she said.
