Music filled the room as The Legal Immigrants took center stage at Rubbles Friday night.

The crowd was warmed up by Jesse Ray and the Carolina Catfish. The Grand Rapids band consists of lead singer Jesse Ray and drummer Josh Worsham.

The self proclaimed back-to-basics rock-and-roll band hyped the crowd formed at Rubbles by playing a mix of their take on old school rock.

"It felt like we all burnt the house down, it felt incredible. There was a lot of kindling" said Joe Bockheim lead singer of the Legal Immigrants and former CMU wider receiver. "The kindling was provided by Jesse Ray and Carolina Catfish they warmed up the locals and kids alike. They created an environment very conducive to rocking and rolling."

The Legal Immigrants performed a handful of their songs for a crowd that filled the dance floor. The crowd moved to the rhythm of every song played by the band.

Songs such as "Daddy's Little Girl" and "Roses" from The Legal Immigrants new album "Drugs to Roses" excited an energetic crowd. Closing the show resulted in a chant from the audience demanding an encore from the Grand Rapids natives.

"At the end during the encore I jumped into the crowd and got pushed around. It felt great," said Kevin Kitsch bass guitarist.

The Legal Immigrants formed in 2009 and their first concert was played at a small bar in Grand Rapids, Joey's Lounge, for a benefit concert. Six years later, the band redefined itself with two new members and a new sound.

The band went from playing local bars in Grand Rapids to performing throughout the state, signing with Big Dutch Records and recording a full length record, "Drugs to Roses."

The band will tour the state, Illinois and Wisconsin in July. Their last two shows before dropping the record were Friday at Rubbles Bar in Mount Pleasant and Saturday at MAC's Bar in Lansing.

"Hanging out with my home boys, having some good times and creating memories is something I'm looking forward to with this tour," Bockhiem said.
