Orientation fills campus with new faces
Academic Orientation is kicking off as potential students tour campus this week.
The orientation program provides future students with an in-depth introduction to campus prior to their first day of classes. Orientation groups are split and given a color. Each group is led by an academic orientation leader who is Central Michigan University a student.
"I give tours of the university to family members, parents and such, not the students," said Family Orientation Leader Brad Barlog. "I got involved with Academic Orientation because I wanted to do more on campus. I was so impressed by (my) orientation leader and I knew it was something I wanted to do during my time here."
For some parents academic orientation is their first experience at the university. For other parents like Lisa Palmreuter from Frankenmuth, orientation is just one of many experiences they share with the university.
"I came here today with my daughter, Ali," Palmreuter said. "I have two nephews that graduated from CMU and we have close family friends that live right behind the university. Ali has been ready to here. She has all her CMU apparel ready."
Future student Kara Collins from Macomb said she is looking forward to her start at CMU in the fall.
"I love this campus a lot and I've heard CMU has a great psychology program," Collins said. "I'm excited to just start new and fresh in the fall at a college."
During orientation, future students are able to register for first-semester classes, meet with advisers and obtain their student ID card. Orientation leaders will explain university procedures including parking permits, financial aid, billing, tuition and banking.
