Sheriff's department investigates fatal crash
The Isabella County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal traffic crash that occurred during the morning of Aug. 19.
At 5:49 a.m., deputies responded to a two-car crash at the intersection of South Shepherd Road and East River Road.
A 2006 Ford 500, driven by Mitchell Jacque, an 86-year-old Mount Pleasant resident, was traveling south on Shepherd when he stopped at a stop sign. He then proceeded into the intersection and was struck broadside by a 2005 Ford F-350 driven by Justin Wheeler, a 27-year-old Mount Pleasant resident. Wheeler was traveling west on River Road.
Officers said alcohol doesn't appear to be a factor in the crash, but it was raining heavily at the time.
