Speaker session on integrity privilege to take place Thursday
A speaker session on integrity privilege will be offered from 7 to 9 p.m. on Thursday, March 24 in the Charles V. Park Library Auditorium.
Jeanine Weekes Schroer, an assistant professor at University of Minnesota Duluth, will host "Integrity Privilege: Why No One Who Likes You Calls You a 'Social Justice Warrior.'"
The free event will take a closer look at how calling an individual a "social justice warrior," is an "insult" which is used to "define integrity away from marginalized people," according to the event's webpage. Schroer will also speak on what constitutes privilege in today's society and how understanding privilege can help further conversations on race, gender, sexuality and more.
Schroer teaches on the subject of race and racism, feminist ethics and social theory. She has published several works including some on the topic of intersectonality, the future of racism and the marriageability of black women. Schroer has won multiple awards for her work.
The speaker session is co-sponsored by Central Michigan University's department of philosophy and religion and the department of women and gender studies.
