Central Michigan Life names new Editor-in-Chief for summer, fall semesters

After meeting with the Central Michigan Life Student Media Publications Board, two new leaders of Central Michigan Life were selected for the summer and fall semesters.

Taylor junior Andrew Surma will serve as the Editor-in-Chief for the summer 2016 semester. Utica, New York senior Dominick Mastrangelo will serve as Editor-in-Chief for the fall 2016 semester.

"It is an immense honor to be named (Editor-in-Chief)," Mastrangelo said. "CM Life to me is the best college media company in the country. I'm really excited to lead a staff that is as passionate about journalism and this campus as I am."

Surma said he applied for Editor-in-Chief because its a leadership position he's always wanted since he first stared working at the paper as a staff reporter in 2014.

"I'm excited to get to work. (I want) and to uphold the longstanding tradition of what CM Life means," he said. "I'm looking forward to delivering the (paper) into safe hands this fall (semester)."

Mastrangelo said he plans to "uphold the standard" of CM Life, by increasing the paper's presence on the internet and various social media platforms, such as Twitter, Snapchat and Facebook.

"Our outgoing Editor-in-Chief Malachi Barrett left a solid foundation to build on," he said. "The paper has changed a lot recently regarding our switch to the tabloid format. CM Life in its very nature is about the students, and it always will be. I hope by the end of my time at my position, CM Life will be in a better place than it is now, which is pretty hard to imagine."

Mastrangelo will conduct interviews for editorial positions for fall 2016 during April 18-22. A sign-up sheet is posted in Moore Hall 436 to sign up for an interview slot.
