Freshman wrestler Oliver named to All-Rookie Team

After becoming CMU’s first All-American since 2014, redshirt freshman wrestler Justin Oliver was named to the Amateur Wrestling News 2016 All-Rookie Team, Wednesday.

The 149-pounder was one of three selections from his weight class across the country.

Oliver finished seventh at the NCAA Championships in March at Madison Square Garden. He came in second place at the Mid-American Conference Championships to earn the bid to Nationals.

The redshirt freshman started the season as the back up in the 149-pound class, but an injury to redshirt sophomore Colin Heffernan gave him the starting spot.

Oliver posted a 32-7 record in his first year at CMU and earned the Chick Sherwood Award, which goes to Central Michigan’s most outstanding wrestler.
