Thrilling Thursdays encourages biker safety with Let's Ride event

The City of Mount Pleasant is teaming up with the Mount Pleasant Optimist Club to host an event titled "Let's Ride" from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, June 22.

The event will be the second in the ten-week Thrilling Thursdays series, put on by the City of Mount Pleasant as a way to encourage Mount Pleasant residents to be more active and involved with the community during the summer. "Let's Ride" is meant to teach local children the importance of bicycle safety and proper riding equipment.

The event will take place at Town Center park in Downtown Mount Pleasant, on the corner of Broadway and Main streets. Participants are asked to bring their own bikes and safety gear, which will be registered by the Mount Pleasant Police Department before the event begins. During registration, children will be able to compete in skills courses with their bikes.

The Optimists Club will be supplying hot dogs and other refreshments for attendees at the event, and will be giving away helmets and a total of four new bicycles.

The City of Mount Pleasant will be supply decorations for children to put on their bikes, and will be giving away a total of 76 bells to encourage safe riding.
