Wrestling comes in at No. 2 in MAC preseason rankings; six wrestlers ranked in top four of weight classes

Six Central Michigan wrestlers were ranked in the top four of their respective weight classes, while the Chippewas were ranked second as a team in the Mid-American Conference preseason rankings. 

The rankings, released Wednesday, were based on voting by the coaches. 

CMU came in second as a team with 18 points, only behind five-time defending MAC champion Missouri (29 points). The Tigers had nine wrestlers ranked in the top four of their weight classes. 

Buffalo (16), Ohio (10), and Eastern Michigan (9) fill out the top five, while Kent State (7), Northern Illinois (6) and Old Dominion (5) fill out the team rankings.

Junior 149-pound Justin Oliver and Senior Jordan Ellingwood (184) came is as the top-ranked MAC wrestlers in their weight classes. Sophomore Mason Smith (141) and seniors Colin Heffernan (157) and CJ Brucki (174) came in second. Sophomore Logan Parks (165) came in fourth.

The Chippewas host their annual intersquad scrimmage at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27 at McGuirk Arena.
