Student Government Association tabled a proposed neuroscience reorganization legislation at its Nov. 12 meeting, pushing back voting to allow members of Central Michigan University administration to speak their piece.

The legislation was first introduced to SGA on Nov. 5 by the Central Neuroscience Society, and seeks student body support of a proposed reorganization of the undergraduate neuroscience program.

Following the meeting, members of higher administration reached out to SGA, requesting to share their opinions on the proposed neuroscience reorganization.

A proposal to reorganize the neuroscience program was introduced to the academic reorganization committee in fall 2017, but the proposal did not make it into final reorganization plans.

Student Government Association meets at 7 p.m. Mondays in the Bovee University Center Auditorium. Meetings are free to attend, but students must bring their CMU Global ID cards to check in prior to entering.

Members of administration will speak about the proposal at House and Senate meetings on Nov. 19, after which SGA will vote whether or not to approve the proposed legislation.

At the Nov. 12 general board meeting, Diversity Committee chair Gabrielle Mason took a moment to address the recent incident in Sweeney hall involving a student receiving hate speech on her door on Nov. 7.

"Unfortunately, this is not the only incident that has happened to students on this campus," Mason said. She said there will be speakers at the Nov. 19 Diversity Committee meeting to address what happened, because the conversation is "long past due."
