Local comic book shop Hall of Heroes is partnering with Art Reach of Mid-Michigan to hold an event as part of 24-hour Comics Day.

The event begins at 10 a.m. Oct. 5 at Art Reach, located at 111 E. Broadway. The event is free to attend but limited to those 16 years of age or older. Participants are asked to bring their “materials and creativity,” according to a flyer.

Artists and comic book enthusiasts alike will team-up to create a 24-page graphic novel in 24 hours. Owner Michael Shuler attends but uses the time to catch up on his reading, he said.

"Its cool to see the creativity and camaraderie," Shuler said. "It's fun. One year, a guy went to the bathroom at 3 a.m., and when he came out, he was dressed in a comic-book accurate blue beetle costume."

"Nobody said anything," he added.

24-hour Comics Day is an annual international celebration of comic book creation. The Hall of Heroes has participated for five years, Shuler said.
