James Fiste, a professor of cello at Central Michigan University, is performing Tuesday as part of the Faculty Artist Concert Series.

His performance is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 8 in Staples Family Concert Hall.

Fiste also organizes a "Tech Tones" concert at the end of every semester. “Tech Tones” allows School of Music students to play instruments they have never played before. At the end of the semester, they perform in the School of Music’s lobby.

The Faculty Artist Concert series allows professors from the School of Music to perform whatever music they want. There are three more concerts this semester, and next semester there are nine.

“Performing is part of the profession, it’s like a practice what you preach approach” Director of Music Events Kristin Pagels said. “It’s a great way to see great music and what these professors are working on.”

The event is free and open to the public.
