A letter from President Davies welcoming alumni on homecoming

CMU President Robert Davies greets the community during an ice cream social on Sept. 12, 2018 at Warriner Hall.

The following is a letter from Central Michigan University President Bob Davies.

Meeting with and hearing from alumni are among my favorite parts of being Central Michigan University’s president.

I’ve met them here on our campus when they come to speak in classrooms, recruit students for internships and even as they accompany their children on campus admissions tours. We cheer on CMU’s student-athletes together in stadiums around the country, and exchange enthusiastic greetings of “Fire Up Chips!” in cities and airports around the world.

Conversations with our alumni uplift and inspire me. They tell me how proud they are to be CMU Chippewas. We talk about their years on campus and the friends and mentors who have followed them throughout their lives. They tell me about their educational and career journeys and the satisfaction they have found being leaders in their professions and in their communities.

Most of all, they tell me how Central still feels like a home away from home. It’s why so many of you have chosen to return this weekend.

Homecoming can happen any and every time you reconnect with your alma mater. While this weekend’s events are an exciting time to return to campus, I hope you’ll also choose to come back at other times as well — perhaps to attend one of our remarkable student music, dance or theater productions. Come home to cheer on student athletes in any of our 18 men’s and women’s sports or attend a lecture during one of our many speaker series.

Each year, there are hundreds of events and activities at CMU to engage, enlighten and entertain you. Consider this an open invitation: You are always welcome to come home again.

And bring someone with you when you return. Share your pride in this great university with others and encourage them to experience all that Central Michigan University has to offer. Your story has the power to inspire future students to find their way home to CMU, too.

Fire Up Chips!

— Bob Davies
President, Central Michigan University
