The Wanderheart Project (WAHE) is putting a smile on the faces of children at the Mott Children’s Hospital during March is Reading Month.

In February, WAHE placed book collection boxes in Mount Pleasant public schools and in City Hall. The books will be donated to the Giving Library at Mott Children’s Hospital this month.

“The book drive is meaningful to us because we see the positive impact the Giving Library has on kids at the hospital," said Terzah Dyer, public relations intern for WAHE. "Co-founder Jordan Bruursema and his family spent six weeks at Mott Children’s hospital, and every time the cart came around, it was a great distraction from hospital life."

Members of the Mount Pleasant community donated more than 150 books and around $400 were to purchase more, Dyer said.

“The book drive highlights one way people can support families walking this difficult journey,” Dyer said.

WAHE spreads awareness of children who are born with congenital heart defects and promotes "unplugging" from technology.
