Heather Oesterle has her first commitment in the class of 2021.

Shooting guard Tiana Timpe announced her commitment to Central Michigan Saturday via Twitter after visiting campus on Jan. 25 for the Chippewas' 73-66 victory over Toledo in McGuirk Arena.

The Stockton, Illinois native told Central Michigan Life that she felt right at home with the culture embedded in the Chippewas' women's basketball program.

"I love the coaching staff and players," Timpe said. "CMU girls basketball fits my style of play and it is a great program with amazing fan support."

In her time with Central Michigan as both assistant and head coach, Oesterle has made a habit of recruiting shooters at all positions. Her offensive coaching style revolves around having players who can shoot from the perimeter, which is an area where Timpe excels.

"I love the 3-ball and how CMU pushes the ball," Timpe said.

Timpe was named first team all-state for the second year in a row after leading the Lady Blackhawks to the state playoffs with a 25-7 record. The team advanced to the sectional semifinal before it was eliminated by eventual state champion Eastland.

Last season, Timpe averaged 16.8 points per game while playing in all 32 games as a junior.

Central Michigan will graduate starting guards Maddy Watters and Micaela Kelly following the 2020-21 season, meaning that Timpe will be counted on to fill the holes left by their departures.

Outside of Watters and Kelly, the Chippewas currently have juniors Annika Weekes, Kalle Martinez and Sophia Karasinski, sophomores Molly Davis and Kate McArthur and freshman Carlee Crabtree on roster at the guard position.
