After five weeks of college, some students might need some new masks.

The Central Michigan District Health Department will supply free masks on Monday, Sept. 21 from 2-4 p.m. at their Isabella County office, located at 2012 E. Preston St. in Mount Pleasant.

They are "disposable, adult-sized, not washable and intended for single-use," said Melissa DeRoche, spokesperson for the health department.

The distribution will take place in the office's parking lot. People can call the department to receive a mask while staying in their car, or they can walk up to a table that will be set outside, said DeRoche.

"Any local resident who needs a mask can receive one," she said. "However, we are looking to primarily distribute these masks to populations such as low-income residents, older adults, high-risk families, those returning to school in person and people living in homeless shelters."

The health department will also distribute masks in Clare and Osceola counties next week as well.

Masks were donated through the MI Mask Aid, which is a state government initiative funded by donors like the Ford Motor Co. and General Motors Co., according to www.michigan.gov.
