Central Michigan announced its football program will remain active following the Michigan Department Health and Human Services order announced Nov. 15 by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer.

The order, along with several other measures aimed to stop the spread of COVID-19, brought high school and youth sports to a halt for three weeks, while allowing other sports to continue as long as they met "extraordinary standards for risk mitigation."

According to a statement from the athletic department, CMU will continue to play, and will do so in front of completely empty stadiums. For the home opener against Ohio, limited guests of players were allowed inside Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

The order will expire on Dec. 9; during that time, the Chippewas will host Western Michigan at 7 p.m. on Nov. 18 and Ball State on Dec. 5 in Kelly/Shorts Stadium.

"The health and safety of our student-athletes, coaches and staff remains our top priority and we continue to follow the standards set forth by our medical and health leadership," CMU athletic director Amy Folan said in the release. "We hope all our great fans tune in on Wednesday to watch one of the great rivalries in college football."
