State police searching for suspect in Mount Pleasant homicide

Michigan State Police were called to South Isabella Road in Union Township Sunday morning around 3:15 a.m. for a reported sexual assault/ homicide, according to the MSP Twitter page.

Sunday night, investigators identified Isaiah Gary Gardenhire, also known as “Zeke,” as a suspect. Police believe he was in Mount Pleasant and urge residents to lock their doors and call 911 if they see him.

Gardenhire is a 40-year-old black male, 6-foot-1, 180 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes.

Gardenhire is suspected of stabbing three people, one of whom died. The child who died is also believed to have been sexually assaulted before being stabbed, according to The Morning Sun.

The age and name is the child have not yet been released.

Central Michigan University released a statement informing students of the homicide. The email stated that all exterior doors of Celani Hall have been secured for the safety of students living on-campus over the summer.

Update: Tuesday

In an email this morning, CMU said Gardenhire was taken into custody by MSP in Flint, MI. All campus operations will return to normal.
