CRIME LOG: Police respond to multiple drunk driving incidents


The following incidents were among those handled by Mount Pleasant Police Department and Central Michigan University Police Department from Sept. 5 to Sept. 10.

Sept. 5

CMUPD arrived at Wayside at 1 a.m. to help a 23-year-old man track down his missing phone.  The man couldn't recall if the phone was stolen or misplaced.  Police are still investigating the situation. 

Sept. 6

CMUPD made an arrest at 8:30 a.m. in front of the Charles V. Park Library. A 22-year-old woman was driving while intoxicated. She was lodged in Isabella County Jail.

MPPD officers responded to a dropped 911 call at E. Broomfield and Sweeney. They found two men, one 16 and one 18, in a car with alcohol. Minor in Possession is a civil infraction, and therefore no arrests were made. Both men have been turned over to their parents.

City police responded to a domestic dispute between a 22-year-old man and a 20-year-old woman at 8:41 p.m. on W. Cherry Street. The couple was having an argument that turned physical. The man received minor injuries from being kicked by the woman. The woman had also been slapped. Police separated the couple and the case has been sent to the prosecutor's office.

MPPD responded to a potential assault involving children at 5 p.m. on E. Lincoln Street. The situation is still being investigated.

Sept. 7

A 19-year-old woman living in Northwest Apartments reported stolen items from her car. The situation is being investigated. CMUPD currently has no leads.

MPPD investigated a harassment complaint between two minors at 9:47 a.m. on S. Elizabeth Street. Because the incident occurred between two Mount Pleasant students, the situation was handled by the school and prosecutor's office. 

City police responded to a domestic violence complaint at about 4:30 p.m. on S. Crawford Street. A 25-year-old man was seen beating his fists on one of the resident's doors. Police found his partner, a 24-year-old woman inside the home. She told police she locked her boyfriend out of the apartment after the two got into an argument. No physical abuse took place. The man did not give a statement and acted disorderly toward the officers on site. The incident was turned over to CMU Student Conduct.

Sept. 8

MPPD, with the assistance of Child Protective Services, is investigating a potential child abuse complaint. A student in the Mount Pleasant Public School system said she was pushed down the stairs by her mother's significant other - injuring her ankle. Her mother's partner, a 36-year-old man, denied injuring her.  He said he tried to grab her after she walked away during an argument. The situation is being handled by the prosecutor's office and the Department of Human Services.

Sept. 9

An MPPD officer observed a car swerving at about 1 a.m. near S. Mission Street and E. Blue Grass Road. The driver, an 18-year-old man, had glossy eyes and slurred speech. He admitted to drinking and failed a sobriety test. His Blood Alcohol level was 0.13% The officer arrested the man for drunk driving. He was lodged in Isabella County Jail.
