Women’s basketball falls at home to Akron
Although Central Michigan (4-15, 2-8) women’s basketball got out to a fast start in the return of head coach Heather Oesterle and leading scorer Molly Davis, it wasn’t enough to slow down Akron Saturday in McGuirk Arena.
The Chippewas went into halftime shooting 57.1% from three. However, an extended scoring slump in the fourth quarter allowed the Zips to secure a 70-60 road victory.
Senior center Jahari Smith secured her seventh double-double of the season, finishing with 19 points and 11 rebounds, in addition to three assists and two steals. Davis was close behind in scoring, ending with 16 points while tacking on three steals.
Akron’s Jordyn Dawson led all players in scoring and rebounds with 23 points and 12 rebounds, securing a double-double.
The Chippewas head to Kent, Ohio, on Wednesday, to face Kent State at 7 p.m.
